OK, so I’ve written a book. What now?

The Mega team can assist with getting your book edited, illustrated, designed, typeset, proofed, promoted and distributed (see our links page). Please speak to your consultant for further info. We can arrange for delivery to (almost) anywhere in the world.

The whole idea behind what we do is to make the process of getting something printed as easy and painless as possible. We don’t want you to worry about it. We’ll do whatever we can to make it happen.

Collections and deliveries are free in the Cape Town area.

If there is no digital file of the book, existing books are scanned and then output to PDF for imposition and proofing. This means that books need never go out of print, no matter how small the demand for them may be.

The beauty of digital print is that proofs are produced on exactly the same paper as the final product. With our programmable perfect binder, proofs are bound and trimmed to their final format for client approval before going ahead with the print run. Books of up to approximately 850 pages of text can be bound in this manner.

Files are often submitted by email in PDF form, which enables Mega Digital to produce work for clients in other parts of the world.

All books produced by the company are archived, and titles can be retrieved for reprinting at short notice.

Books and Training Manuals

The rationale behind POD (Print on Demand) is that books are produced as they are ordered, rather than sitting in a warehouse in the hope that they will be sold at a later stage. Books for the academic market can also be produced per class, using only the information required for the particular course as opposed to students having to buy a number of full textbooks from which they would use a limited number of pages.

Other uses of books printed on this system are:

  • Short runs for a limited audience (niche publications)
  • Promotional runs of a few hundred copies to test the market before going ahead with a longer litho run
  • Submissions copies
  • Self publishing
  • Training manuals
  • Loose leaf inserts for publishers of legal updates
  • On a pure cost comparison with litho printing, typical run lengths are up to approximately 750 copies, depending on the size and extent of the book.

With digital print, both the cover and the text proofs are printed on the same machines and materials that the final job will be printed on, preventing any possibility of misunderstandings about the final product.

Books are printed as collated sets, ready for binding. This further prevents errors which may occur during the preparation of the books for binding.

Our black and white production capacity at the moment allows us to produce approximately
40 000 pages per hour.

Covers and content can be personalised for each individual learner or educator.

Quality is comparable with litho print and in most cases cannot be differentiated from the same product printed on a litho press.
