The Cape Town Book Fair 2009

We met a lot of new people and were able to spread the word on how digital print can be of benefit to them. There was a lot of interest in self-publishing. It's great that Mega's in a postion to be able to help these people realise their dreams of producing a book, without having to sell their houses for finance!

The Cape Town Book Fair 2008

The Cape Town Book Fair 2008 was held from the 14th to the 17th June at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. I haven't seen official attendance figures yet, but it seemed to be very well attended in spite of the public holiday on the Monday and the resultant long weekend.

Drupa 2008

Mike and Adrian were fortunate to have been invited by Xerox and their local agency, Bytes Document Solutions, to attend DRUPA in Dusseldorf in June 2008.
The event is the biggest international print and packaging expo, and is held only once every four years. It's known as the "Olympics" of the printing trade!
The show was expected to draw approximately 500 000 vistors. Over 2 200 exhibitors from every corner of the globe had their wares on display, covering everything relating to print, from software to web presses to paper suppliers to finishing equipment.
It was a fantastic opportunity for us at Mega to view the very latest technology - once again "thanks" to Xerox and Peter Walton from Bytes for giving us the chance!

Océ Open House 2007 - Germany

Adrian was invited to attend the Océ Open House at the Océ facility in Poing, near Munich, Germany. Held from the 5th to 9th of March 2007 and billed as “Europe’s biggest digital printing fair”, more than 5 800 individuals from 90 countries attended.
It was a very well produced and organised show, and a fantastic opportunity to view the latest digital printing and finishing equipment, workflows and personalisation software in action.
They had 63 full printing lines set up and running. I think the most impressive for me was the “9000” line, which is reel-fed and prints up to 1515 personalised pages per minute. Together with the Sigma Binder, sheeters, tensioners, conveyer system and three-knife trimmer, it truly is “paper in one side and a book out the other”.

IBM On Demand Books Conference - Colorado

Mike and Adrian were invited to the IBM Headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, for a two day conference on digital print. It was quite a small group (about 40 people) and consisted of a series of presentations by American printers and various experts on printing, finishing and software.
The trip got off to a bumpy start (for Mike) when he was told at Cape Town International that he would not be able to pass through Heathrow on a temporary passport, so it was last minute rebooking of flights. He got to the hotel, had a shower and went straight into the seminar, after 33 hours of flying!

Cape Town Book Fair - 2007

We had a stand at the 2007 Cape Town Book Fair. The show attracted more than 50 000 visitors and nearly doubled in size compared to the 2006 show.
We wanted to do something a little “out of the ordinary” and enlisted the services of Melanie Rigby to do some body painting. The model, Phoebe, certainly attracted attention!
